EDITING, TEAMBUILDING &
LEADERSHIP |
Each day at school, my abilities are tested. I work through a multitude of issues with my staff and try to be proactive towards future ones. As the staff accumulates questions for me, the stress can become overwhelming. However, I don't allow the stress to distract me from being a positive leader. After all, we have deadlines to make! They all share my passion for design and creation which sparks much energy and enthusiasm for journalism.

LEADERSHIP ASSESMENT
"Martha Kate is someone who has made my staff member experience a memorable one. Coming into the year as a new staffer, she never failed to help me, and our class as a whole. MK has taught me many things about Journalism and aspects of journalistic writing. I have gained lots of knowledge about design from someone who excels in it. She has inspired me to continue as a staff member. MK has shown me the benefits of having a positive attitude and doing everything to the best of your ability.”
- Sophie knowles, first year deadline editor
"MK is an excellent writer and person. She is an amazing leader for each student in the yearbook class and beyond it. She is always on top of things and pushes each staffer whenever we need it”
- KAILIN NYGUEN, FIRST YEAR STAFFER
"Martha Kate is an amazing person and friend. She carries an infectious energy and is always eager to help others. She shares her passion for yearbook each day, and you can tell she is happy to be here”
- NYLA WILSON, THIRD YEAR STAFFER
"MK is who people think of when they think of a perfect leader. She helps anyone she can, no questions asked. From small to large problems she figures out a way to help. Without MK, our staff wouldn't be the same and I can't imagine this book without her.”
- CLAIRE MORAN, FIRST YEAR DEADLINE EDITOR
SEE THE PROCESS |
HandmadeThroughout four deadlines, DSL, Body Copy, Photo/Caption, and Final Deadline, the staffers create a finalized spread to the best of their abilities. They include all the elements for the pages to be printed.
|
GRADINGNext, the editors grade the final deadline rubrics, which touches on all of the previous deadlines and combs through any mistakes.
|
MAKING THE CHANGESLastly, the spread is changed to make sure that it cannot be improved. Usually the chief editor helps make changes in the body copy, photos, and design. As seen above the design has changed, along with multiple photos and captions to create the best coverage.
